So ya'll i just got home from a week trip in Mexico. Besides the bug bites, missing sleeping in my own bed with my hubby right next to me, and missing my kiddos so much, it was a great trip!
We were able to build a house for a very deserving family. All week we got to hang out with this wonderful family of 6. They are the sweetest people and so in love with Jesus. It made it all worth it to know this house we are building will bring so many more people into the kingdom of God. Pictures will follow soon!
We returned to get our kids Sunday morning. I went and picked them up from my moms house and we went to church a little early to let the kids see daddy. It was a wonderful reunion of many hugs and kisses. We missed our babies terribly!
I found a few questions odd when we returned to church. Maybe not odd, but i wasn't able to answer them the way i wanted to in the time that allowed. So I'd like to go into a little more detail here.
So many people asked me if i had "fun". Unfortunately my first response was no. I really didn't have "fun". we worked from 6:30am to when the sun went down for 7 days. It was a little exhausting. I got the opportunity to get 2 afternoons off from the job site but was still very exhausting. in the long run, looking back it was fun to hang out with our team and the people there, but it was a lot of hard work.
The other question i had a lot was "boy i bet you missed your kids", and "man, i can't believe you could leave them for 7 days."
Here are a few thoughts why Jason and i both choose to leave our kids for this trip.
We prayed, God said Go.
We are blessed to have my parents and Jason's parents close to us and so willing to be available to help with childcare.
What better way to show Judah and Jocelyn (Judah understands, jossy doesn't yet) the love of Jesus than to let them know we found it important to give back and build a house. We explained to Judah the week prior to the trip about what mommy and daddy were going to do. We let him know that there are people in Mexico that don't have a house and we are going to build them one. He was almost saddend at the thought of others not having a house. What a neat thing it was to share pictures with Judah of our accomplishment building this house. It was a great tangible way to show our kids how much we love our Lord and how blessed we are to have what we have.
Another thing that was so neat about this trip was Jason and i worked so close together. Since our kids have come along we haven't been away on a missions trip together. it was so neat to work side by side and love every moment. We were a great team. I would lay the mortar and he would lay the brick and together we made sure it was straight. We never fought, we never argued, we played, and laughed, and loved working side by side. It did great things for our marriage!
Although the time away wasn't a vacation, and it was hard to leave our babies behind, going and serving along side my husband for the good of the kingdom was an amazing experience! Our team got along so well, no fighting, just laughing and working together to build a wonderful home for a great family!
i think it sends a great message about your relationship with eachother and your obedience to jesus! you guys are great.
