Peace in the bank account

Why always when Christmas comes around are there more expenses than normal? Jason and i keep a savings account for unexpected things, but can i just list all the "unexpected" things we need THIS month!

- freezer
- beef (We bought a part of a cow for organic meat, $$ due this month)
- dishwasher is broken
- new tires on van
- back brakes on van
- heating system needs to be looked at (our house has 2 broken heaters)
- Contact lenses
- 3 more major dental appt. to make & pay for to have all my teeth fixed

SERIOUSLY!! Christmas is seeming like it's going to be impossible this year!

I was reading through a coupon blog and i realized i'm not the only one out there with these same feelings. Jason and i are currently prioritizing our list needs and as we have the money we are chipping away at it. Meanwhile, we are washing dishes by hand, wearing glasses, bundling up really warm, and flossing and brushing my teeth like crazy!

Jason will be the first to say, he gets frustrated with our finances when he feels they aren't going his way. We are really trying to get rid of debt, and we're doing a good job at it.  Then we have these months where nothing gives and the list of items that need fixed now are right in our face.

I am grateful in these situations that we tithe.

Tithing gives me a peace that these needs, which have come so unexpected to us, are not unexpected to God. He knew they would come. He knew we would have to not take certain trips. He knew we'd have to cut back on other expenses. God knew.

So for now i'll rest in the fact that God knows, and because he knows, i'll trust he'll provide for our needs. (which only grow by the day...)

  1. Oh another post I LOVE! I've said it before, but I'll say it again - "You are a great writer!" Seems this same issue is going on everywhere, even our house! Thanks for the great reminder about how this is not a surprise to God! Our trust is in Him!

  2. We have totally had the same situation before. It can be really discouraging but my mom reminded me last time that although we often have plans for our money God really knows what it's there for!! Let me know if there is anything we can do to help!
